We just loved these 3 winner's stories and wanted to share them with you
My mother is so sweet that even her dark side is delectable. Her love of life and for the people around her comes from deep down inside her, from a place so organic, that those of us preoccupied with the trivialities of everyday life can over look it. She always thinks of others before herself such as when she gathers plates and cleans our table at restaurants so the bussers have less to do, but she still leaves a nice tip; buys little gifts for no reason but to see smiles on the receivers' faces; and takes time out of fighting cancer to teach Catholic CCD school to children to share with them the compassion of our religious leaders (and I am sure they learn a great deal from my mother's own great compassion).
But the one thing that really stands out in my mind of how sweet my mother is is how she makes breakfast everyday for my father ever since they got married. This is a sign of dedication, care and love. No matter how tired or how busy she is, she always puts the love of her life first. This little daily action of making oatmeal or eggs and bacon may seem like nothing on a daily basis, but throughout a lifetime, it adds up, exemplifying starting the day off with an act of love. My sweet mother's kindness and her organic love shown through even the most simplest of acts lets us realize that thought for others is important in life for relationships, emotional health and well-being.
If my 15 month-old daughter, Zaine, could talk, this is what she would say about my wife, Sanchia:
"Is my mommy sweet? That's like asking if my nappies are smelly! The answer to both is yes! Of course she's sweet! The sweetest around. Just the other day I was practicing giving raspberries--you know, putting your lips up to someone's skin and blowing to make a fun-loud noise!--on my mommy's shoulder while we were in line at the store. Other mommies would have told their babies to stop, but not mine. She just giggled and laughed, which made me giggle and laugh even harder. We made quite the scene.
She's also very sweet by the way she patiently lets me play with my food. I just can't help myself. I know I should be eating the tasty organic things she makes, but it's so much more fun to push it all around my tray! Does mommy get mad? Heck no. She just smiles and lets me be a messy baby.
She needs this chocolate gift basket! Why? Because I'm not allowed to have chocolate yet, so the only way I can taste its sweet deliciousness is when it passes through my mommy's milk. So please, for my sake, choose her to win. Thank you!!!
Hard-working, self-motivated, caring, optimistic, enthusiastic, full of energy; these words can all be used to describe someone who everyone wants to be around, someone that makes everyone else feel good. While these words do indeed describe my mother, there is also so much more to her. I will try to capture some of her amazing essence on paper.
My mother, Jennifer Bolton, has been my role-model since I can remember. She is the person that I have always wanted to be just like, and whose life I constantly try to live up to. She does so much and is such a great person in all aspects of her life, and everyone who meets her loves her. She is the person I get my advice from, the person I share my joys with, the person I go to just to have a good conversation with. She really represents the ideal mother that I wish everyone could have.
Perhaps what most amazes me, as well as everyone else who knows my mother, is her kindness and optimism that shines through all of the adversity she has faced in her life. She is really an amazing enigma, and someone who has accomplished so much, yet doesn't even know it. As the oldest daughter of five children, my mom has always had to do a lot of household work for the family. She has told me stories where she would stay up late at night or all night cleaning the house so that her own mother wouldn't have to the next day while my mom was at school. She then was the first person from both her mom's and dad's sides of the family to graduate from college, with a degree in political science. Not only did she graduate, but she completely funded her college education on her own, working and going to school full-time. She was so dedicated to her studies and to getting a college education, and has since passed that zest and importance for knowledge on to my siblings and me.
